The aim of the program is to help build positive family relationships and improve access to fresh food, while providing opportunities for outdoor, physical activity.
The Home Harvest program is a community gardening program that works with families to:
Access: Families connected with Kildonan’s Stronger Families program and Integrated Families Services in Yarra, Darebin and Whittlesea can participate.
Work experience programs for the long-term unemployed have provided vocational development opportunities for members of the local community for over 4 years. These programs focus on landscape construction and garden maintenance with opportunities tailored to individual interests where possible.
The Coburg Edibles Swap is a fun, local gathering where people swap excess homegrown produce and gardening extras. Held on the first Saturday of every month, 10am - 2pm, swaps are run on an honesty system where people exchange fruit, vegetables, herbs, eggs, seeds, seedlings, recipes, gardening tips, worm juice, stories, friendship and more.
A natural extension of the kitchen garden process, the Café Cooperative is a volunteer-powered initiative bringing quality baked goods, fresh coffee and seasonal creations to the community table. Open on the first Saturday of every month the Café Cooperative invites the local community to celebrate, contribute and share within the beautiful garden setting of PepperTree Place. The café is also open during special events and with our extended business hours, is now serving a lunch menu and delicious hot foods.
I was inspired by watching my grandparents create amazing food from simple ingredients. A mix of Pa's French heritage and Nona's Italian bloodlines influenced how my mum spiced up meals for the 10 of us kids. My family has gifted me with skills and creativity in the kitchen and I can only hope a little rubs off from me to my daughters" Jane, Volunteer Cafe Cooperative Coordinator and Caterer
A community-powered event, the Annual Garden Fiesta brings together musicians, artists, food lovers, plant enthusiasts, gardening gurus and the organisations, community groups, families and passionate volunteers who support the development of this unique community asset. On a Saturday in November the Fiesta helps provide financial support for the Community-driven initiatives of PepperTree Place.
