Businesses and community groups in the Goulburn Valley and greater Shepparton area have taken out a full page ad in support of same-sex marriage.
29 businesses in the electorate of Murray have run a full page ad in the Shepparton Adviser calling on other businesses to “Join the Goulburn Valley’s growing list of Regional Victorian businesses supporting marriage equality”.
The organiser of the ad, Damien Stevens said it was “heartwarming” to see so many businesses and organisations supporting equality.
"In regional areas, people of diverse sexuality and gender - especially young people - often experience higher levels of discrimination, isolation and social exclusion," Stevens said.
"By adding their logos to the full page advertisement that appears in today's edition of the 'The Adviser', businesses and organisations are proudly showing their support to couples who wish to marry and their families and friends."
Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said the ad was part of a broader campaign to show MPs - especially Coalition MPs - that there was broad support for marriage equality across regional Australia.
"The aim of the campaign is to show Liberal MPs that marriage equality has support across the community, including from the business sector which some Liberals see as their natural constituency," Croome said.
And more businesses are adding their support every month...
